Ken Flood is the managing director of MAPS (Management & Performance Solutions Limited) and SMSL (School Mentor Solutions Limited). Both organisations use up-to-the minute Internet-based technology to provide organisations and individuals with unhindered access to standards and believe they are at the forefront of innovations that combine database technology and National Occupational Standards (NOS). Experience demonstrates that applied technology can dramatically reduce or remove NOS barriers by removing bureaucracy, relating them to roles and integrating performance management and development themes. Ken Flood’s experience spans 30 years, during which he held a range of senior management roles including managing director, sales director and head of training in sectors including tobacco, printing, industrial distribution, retail and direct sales and training and development. From 1988, as a management consultant specialising in OD and management of change, he delivered successful projects to computing, financial services, local government, manufacturing, printing, engineering and the retail sector. Four of these projects were awarded prestigious National Training Awards. He is a registered assessor for Investors in People and European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) and a practitioner for Balanced Scorecard.
In the past five years, Ken has specialised in developing standards-based competency frameworks and has developed ICT-based facilities for clients including Boehringer Ingelheim, Inland Revenue, Toshiba and Arriva Trains. More recently, he has led a Department Employment & Learning (Northern Ireland) project to deploy College Performer as an FE Standards-based ICT tool to help NI colleges to manage change and raise standards in teaching and learning. In particular, he has demonstrated to DEL how NOS can be used to facilitate and guide strategic planning, organisational structures and job roles, accurate training gap analyses, all linked to approved Internet-based development resources.
