Skills for Justice has appointed The Management Standards Consultancy to review the National Occupational Standards for Custodial Care.
The project objectives are to:
- review the Custodial Healthcare suite of NOS and National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and explore the need for an equivalent Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ)
- develop NOS to address specific gaps identified in the existing Custodial Care suite relating to psychological conditioning, hostage negotiation and negotiation at height and reducing re-offending
- review the Custodial Administration suite of NOS
- review the Custodial Adjudication NOS
- produce an updated Functional Map of the Custodial Care/Healthcare sector
- develop a Scottish National Vocational Qualification and National Vocational Qualification for those involved in the electronic monitoring of offenders in the community.
An intensive period of reviewing existing NOS with practitioners from prison services, immigration detention centres and electronic monitoring services during autumn 2008 was followed by wider consultation and a full review of the standards in spring 2009.
