Policing and Law Enforcement

Following the successful completion of the Wider Law Enforcement project in 2007-8, Skills for Justice appointed The Management Standards Consultancy to carry out a review of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Policing and Law Enforcement and develop new NOS to fill identified gaps.

There were seven strands to the project:

  • Protection of Witnesses and other Persons
  • Police Search
  • Covert Activities
  • Critical Incident Management
  • Public Order
  • Disaster Victim Identification and Casualty Bureaux
  • Customer and Community Focus.

Following research in July 2009, NOS were drafted together with subject matter experts between August and October and exposed to wider consultation during November and December. Refinements were made to the NOS in spring 2010 and the new Policing and Law Enforcement National Occupational Standards were approved in May 2010.
