On behalf of Skills for Health, The Management Standards Consultancy developed the Occupational and Functional Maps for the Drugs and Alcohol Sector and the DANOS standards from 2001 to 2005. The DANOS standards describe all the functions and activities involved in improving the quality of life for individuals and communities by minimising harm associated with substance misuse. They define the standards of performance expected of workers in the substance misuse field and specify the knowledge and skills needed to meet these standards.
They now form the basis for qualifications such as the Health and Social Care NVQ with DANOS options and Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals (FDAP) accreditation.
There are three main areas in DANOS:
- Service Delivery
- Management of Services
- Commissioning Services
The Drugs and Alcohol National Occupational Standards are available from Skills for Health.
The Management Standards Consultancy provides consultancy services to commissioners, services and training providers to help them use DANOS for workforce planning and for the recruitment, induction, development, training, assessment and retention of a competent workforce in line with DANOS and Models of Care.
The Management Standards Consultancy uses the leading PerformerPlus software which facilitates the use of DANOS. For a brief presentation of PerformerPlus, click here.
