Handgun Combatives Classes

The Miamisburg Sportsmen's Club is very fortunate to be able to host several Handgun Combatives LLC classes in 2018. MSC has been sponsoring classes for several years.

Dave Spaulding, owner of Handgun Combatives LLC and the 2010 Law Officer Trainer of the Year, personally teaches each class. Dave's 37 +year experience in law enforcement and federal security gives him a singular perspective on handgun combatives and the ability to make your time on the range as enjoyable as it is fruitful.

Not more than half of each class can be filled with MSC members at a cost of $125 for a one-day course and $250 for a two-day. First come first serve. To signup for a class, complete the form found at the bottom of (i.e., Upcoming Classes page) and mail it along with a check or money order to Dave as instructed on the form. Make sure to add "MSC member" to the form. Non-members must sign up through Dave's website.

A schedule of Dave's classes can be found on either the Club's calendar of events or at Dave's site at

You will not regret the experience!!

The MSC continues to be a major participant in the annual Warrior Weekend to Remember. This event, held in July, enables a number of our honored Purple Heart combat injured warriors and Gold Star Families of Fallen Hero’s to experience an amazing weekend of life enriching activities and bonding with other service members and the community.

Led by Team Fastrax Professional Skydiving Team, this effort pulls together hundreds of volunteers, thousands of man hours and a large sum of money from donations, raffles, fundraising events and sponsors, all with the selfless intent to pull together something truly incredible to honor our great nation’s military men and women.

Honored guests go night bow fishing on the Great Miami and Team Full Scale Assault, ride in hot air balloons, helicopters, bi-planes and World War II aircraft, drive Full Throttle Indoor Karts that go over 40 MPH, enjoy a USO country music concert at JD Legends, jump from an airplane at Start Skydiving, support a Warrior 5/10k Run and 12/25/50 mile Gold Star Tribute bike ride, a multi-gun shoot at the MSC and shoot gnats/sporting clays. Many other activities. In addition, our honored guests will also eat delicious foods from many awesome culinary establishments.

MSC has an active USPSA shooting group. MSC is fortunate to have a crew of RO’s, CRO’s, and a RM; as well as many volunteers, to organize, setup, and work the matches. MSC has one match per month every third Sunday through the summer months which includes an USPSA classifier stage. We also have an indoor USPSA league match every Monday evening from September to May.

To shoot at either the Sunday or Monday match, you will need the following:
• Recognized pistol by USPSA – see the USPSA website for more details.
• Holster which covers the trigger
• 4 magazines
• Magazine pouches
• A good belt
• Eye protection
• Ear protection
• Minimum of 72 rounds for a Monday match and usually 120-150 for Sundays.

It is always best to double the amount of ammo in case a reshoot is required.

Don’t worry if you haven’t shot a USPSA match before, everyone is helpful and willing to guide you through the match. The first rule above all else is SAFETY! Check out the USPSA site. They have some nice information explaining what is needed to get started. You can also download a copy of the official rule book. The more you know, the more fun the shoot can be.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask one of the officials or one of the other competitors. There are no silly questions.
