Shooting a handgun can be fun, but it’s also difficult. If you’ve found yourself being aggravated because of inconsistencies, or have struggled to figure out ways to improve, then this workshop may be something that could help.

This workshop is set up for a series of six sessions on consecutive Thursday nights, starting on August  14, 2025 and  running through the  September 18, 2025. We will be primarily in the center pistol bay, but will move indoors if weather is a problem.

The sessions will last approximately two hours each. There will be discussion periods along with live fire sessions. Each night we will work on specific skills and you will have the rest of the week to review and practice those skills.

    Topics covered will include:

    • Safety
    • Grip
    • Sight alignment
    • Trigger control
    • Recoil control
    • Holster skills
    • Two handed shooting
    • One-handed shooting
    • Drawling from concealment
    • Ready positions
    • Reloading your handgun
    • Malfunctions
    • Manipulations
    • Multiple targets
    • Ammo selection
    • Gear selection
    • Mounted pistol optics
    • Live fire practice drills
    • Dry fire, practice drills
    • Questions and answers
    • And much more

    Gear requirements:

Eye protection, hearing protection (electronic recommended), a center fire handgun, a quality holster (no serpa style or fabric holster), quality belt, snacks and drinks are welcomed, and 50 to 100 rounds of ammo each session.

All of the shooting skills will be demonstrated and there will be discussion periods afterwards. The goal for this workshop is to give each participant more information and more confidence when shooting a handgun.

    • 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
    • Magee 2 & Magee 3

Additional Dates have been added for

    Purposeful Practice Group

This is an event for all shooters, regardless of experience or skill level.

Purposeful Practice Group is a new format for an MSC event. The “group” designation suggests it is not a competition league. It is simply an organized practice session with specific target designs and scoring to track individual progress. Hoping to encourage a more "Social" practice environment.
Cost - This event is free to all participants.
    • Why – Purposeful Practice Group is an event designed to improve accuracy and speed. In the book, Citizen’s Guide to Armed Defense, Kevin Davis presents eight bullet points outlining the responsibilities of the armed citizen. This event focuses on only one point, “be skilled in the drawing and accurate in our firing”. Purposeful Practice Group offers no instruction or training beyond our Safety Briefing and Course of Fire direction.
    • Who - These practice sessions are open for all MSC members and one guest or family member. Each member will be the acting Range Officer for him/herself, family member or guest. The Event Director and/or Designated Range Officer will record times and monitor the range for safety issues.
    • What – Purposeful Practice Group is a set of static pistol drills on one range, and a second range with movement and other advanced skills incorporated in set drills. Participants can choose drills to suit their individual skill level and desired areas of focus. The goal is to measure accuracy and speed with accuracy preferred over speed, the timer only measures progress.
    • How - Each shooter will choose their drills. After the range is designated safe, the shooter will place his/her target while the preceding participant’s target is retrieved and scored.
    • When – Purposeful Practice Group will take place on the following Saturdays: April 26, May 10, May 24, June 14, June 28, July 12, August 2, 16, and 30th. Noon to 4PM.
    • To shorten waiting times we hope shooters can arrive in a staggered fashion, with each participants session lasting approximately 1 hour. So, come out anytime between Noon and 4PM and we’ll figure it out as we go.
    • Where – Magee 2 (Movement and Advanced): Magee 3 (Basic Static Drills)
    • Gear - Firearm, holster, two magazines and spare magazine holder, eye and hearing protection, and about 100 rounds of ammo. Participants working from a ready position will only need firearm and case, one magazine, eyes and hearing protection and ammo.

    • SAFETY - Due to the logistics of the Purposeful Practice Group, the event will follow a COLD RANGE SAFETY POLICY. Firearms are to be unloaded and holstered when not at the firing line. All un-holstered firearms must remain unloaded and, in their cases, or other approved storage, until at the firing line. On our range ALL FIREARMS ARE CONSIDERED LOADED and must remain holstered or cased. A safe table will be designated for shooter arrival, malfunctions, and firearm servicing.

    RANGE OFFICER (RO)

Certified by NROI, Range Officers perform most of the officiating seen at a USPSA match. They carry the timer, check equipment, score targets, and help make sure the competitor competes in a safe manner.

To obtain certification as a RO, simply find and attend a Level One seminar (link above) in your area. There are no previous requirements to take the class, although we do prefer that you have at least some shooting experience.

    How to Gain Certification

    • Take a Level One (RO) Seminar
    • You MUST BE a member of USPSA and have a USPSA or SCSA classification to attend the seminar.
    • Age restrictions
      • Juniors under the age of 13 may audit the seminar at no cost, space permitting, but cannot gain certification.
      • Juniors between 13 and 18 may attend and become certified, provided:
        • they are endorsed by at least 2 certified range officers that are not family members,
        • are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during the seminar, and
        • will be supervised by a parent or legal guardian while serving as a Range Official until they reach the age of 18
        • The instructor will have the final say regarding certification, based on the student’s abilities and aptitude during the seminar.  Please note:  we cannot do delayed certifications.
    • Currently certified range officials may audit a seminar at no cost, if space permits and the Instructor approves.
    • Complete the pre-seminar exercises (online)

    Monday Night Fun League

    2025-2026

    Members Shoot free.

    Non-Members, $10.00 per gun.

We start to set up at approximately 3pm with the first group of shooters starting to shoot at approximately 3:30- 4 p.m. range. We shoot in squads of eight shooters.  Additional squads are created in the order of arrival and sign up for the night, final squad of the night might have addition shooters if not enough to form another squad. If you wish to shoot a second round/gun, you must wait until your first round/gun is complete before you sign up for second round/gun. All first first round/gun shooters must shoot before any second round shooters.

Some simple policies and changes. The most important is, the MSC Range rules apply first and always, then we apply the basic USPSA rules to the game. This being a non stanchioned USPSA event, it allows us to make a few changes. Primary is allowing shooters to use Rimfire hand gun and long guns. this is especially good for shooters new to this sport to experience the sport before investing money into shooting belts, competition holster and mag pouches, etc.

    1. Rim-Fire guns will be allowed.
    2. We will also allow for limited number of times Center Fire handguns without a holster.
    3. In both instances, you MUST have a gun bag or pouch to contain the weapon until you are on the firing line and under control of the RO. You will also need a way to carry extra magazines for reloads, mag pouch/s are preferred, but pocket carry is acceptable. as long as the magazines are easily accessible, you must be able to retrieve the mags without taking attention off of controlling your gun.

Round count is approximately 72 rounds, 3 strings of 24 rounds, plus any make up shoots you want to take for misses and no shoot targets. You need at a minimum enough magazines for the string of 24 rounds. Magazine reloads can be completed between strings, the other shooters will gladly assist in reloading mags if you wish.

This is a cold range, you cannot handle the firearm unless you are either at the safety table or under control of the RO.

    When in the range;

Handguns MUST remain in gun bag or holster, cannot remove from bag or holster, until instructed by RO to make ready, no exceptions.

PCC,'s, you can remove it from your carry case upon arrival in range, but MUST be flagged and stored on the rifle rack provided, until you are called to the firing firing line. Must remain flagged and pointed in safe direction until instructed by RO to make ready. no exceptions.

If you don't wish to shoot you are welcome to come out to the range and just observe. This is a great opportunity to see if you have an interest in participating. All you will need to observe, is Eye and Hearing protection, and follow any instructions given for safety.

Complete schedule, every Monday starting October 7, 2024 and last shoot April 14, 2025.

We look forward to seeing you at the range.
